CASSA Arts Workshop

2012 - 2013

 
 
The CASSA Arts Workshop under the direction of Ruth Stenstrom celebrated its 24th year with an expanded program painting, mixed media, fused glass photography, altered books, music composition, and therapeutic art sessions for residents of Clean & Sober Streets. The CASSA program included bi-weekly trips to special museum exhibits.  
Such venues included the National Museum of African Art (pictured right), the Renwick Gallery, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Hirshhorn Collection, the National Portrait Gallery, the National Gallery of Art, the American Indian Art Museum, and the Air & Space Museum

GWU graduate art therapy interns, Monica Ventura and

Meagan Oliphant assisted with the therapeutic art program.

CASSA participants made a series of fused glass pendants
CASSA was one of 30 DC community organizations who participated in “Write Home Soon.” an art installation of post cards  about memories of space and place at the Art Museum of the Americas. Mark Strandquist, the curator of the exhibit, conducted a workshop with us in October and met with us for a tour of  the exhibit  on December 15, 2012.

Recovery Rocks created at special internship reception on April 29, 2013

Guest musician Jordan Sherman worked with several participants to record their music using Garage Band.  Geraldine M. sang with tracks laid down by former participant Todd B. (2:27 minutes - above center) and was accompanied by Jordan Sherman on an Anita Baker tune (4:55 minutes - right above).
